Letter to Senator Thom Tillis
Below is the letter I sent to Sen. Thom Tillis regarding:
Tillis, Senate Republicans to Biden Education Department: Withdraw Proposal to S…
Dear Senator Tillis,
As a lifelong resident of North Carolina , I am outraged over your signing of the letter penned by Senator Mitch McConnell to Secretary of Education , Dr. Miguel Cardona, which included an objection to the 1619 Project.
For many African Americans , this is a sign of blatant disrespect for the history of our ancestors and falls in lockstep agreement with the conservative agenda to destroy black history education under the guise of an attack on critical race theory. Regardless, of the stated intention, your actions and those of the other signees are reminiscent of the Nazi Berlin book burning of May 1933.
It is unfair, to try to silence voices that have been , historically, marginalized.
In order, to break the cycle of educational aparthied that has been present in this country since her inception, I am calling for a Truth commission to uncover the painful history of this country that has been hidden far too long, especially . when it comes to the descendants of the millions of enslaved Africans who built this country.
So, I ask that you reconsider your position and whiteout your signature from the letter , the same way my ancestors have been whited out of history.
Thank you,
Min. Paul Scott, founder
